For this week, I got to experience an experience I didn’t think I would ever have to think about: my death. I knew I could take this in a very serious way or we could be as creative as we can be so I tried to do something that could be relatable to a lot of people now who are in college.
Thoughts on Creating the Scene
I wanted to portray a college student who dedicates their full time and gives studying their undivided attention but then realizes with all these costs of going to school, it screws them over. They end up spending a lot on tuition and textbooks which results to not having enough money to eat or buy bottled water. My message is that college is expensive.
(Disclaimer: I am not saying to not go to college, but that it is expensive.)
I have this current situation right now how I am a third year and I am still dorming on campus and as almost everyone knows, dorming is super expensive but it’s also super convenient. It’s expensive to live on campus and to be close to classes and to have meals served to you daily. But it is also very convenient to be on campus and close to classes and because of this conveniency, it makes life that much more expensive. My mom is the one who prefers and wants me to stay in the dorms and even if I would like to choose apartments over the dorms, she refuses to allow me to live off on my own off campus. Even if there are dorms off campus, she wouldn’t want me to be so far away from classes and she would be afraid I’d miss my classes. Her fear is most likely me not having that whole conveniency. But she also doesn’t see how expensive it is. Even if she does see the cost of all of this, she relies on the job I “will” get in the future. And I’m not saying I won’t get a job, I just don’t know yet. In the future, I would like to get a job and have a nice successful career but sometimes things just don’t go the way you want them to and you have to prepare for different future situations. It’s really stressful to know how much I am bound to owe after I finish school but I know it also motivates me to do my very best to make up all the money.
Creating the Scene
My boyfriend and I went to a nearby city park called Barnes Park in Monterey Park. It was around sunset time so it started getting dark but that was okay since it would have more of a dramatic effect on the photos. we gathered some leaves and placed/ freely threw them around the grass. Then I laid down an opened notebook that showed some math notes, a crushed empty water bottle, and an opened up piggy bank on the grass as well. My boyfriend also had a credit card that was no longer needed since he closed his account so it was just an extra prop laying around for us! Yay! We placed the credit card in between a pair of scissors and actually cut the card halfway but not all the way so the card would still be intact.
Thanks to my boyfriend for providing all the props that were used!!!
Thanks for reading! 🙂
